If you are in the internet industry you should be very excited, like I am right now.
The “internet marketing industry” is going to propel us forward in epic proportions very soon.
I’ve noticed, after years of working as a Digital Marketing Consultant, helping business owners with their digital strategies, that they still don’t have a clue, and they still need us more than ever.
AND The business owners who DO have a clue, usually have it wrong….
So what does this mean for the fool hardy digital marketers like me?
Well, it means a few things!
First of all, they (businesses) still need us, more than ever. As the internet grows, so does their need to be on it more.
Secondly, our repertoire of digital marketing knowledge becomes far more powerful as each year passes. People coming into the industry simply don’t have the backlog of training and hardworn experience that us more seasoned marketers have, so it will take longer for them to really compete with us (because we’ve made all the mistakes, that they are yet to make!!) AND it will take longer for them to command the higher fees we command, because they are still like “apprentices” compared to us!!
Thirdly, it means we will earn more and more, as we craft how the internet works better, every day.
NETWORKING is something that all online marketers need to do more of. I’m TERRIBLE at this – I say it in capitals because I am T E R R I B L E at it. And I shouldn’t be. I’m outgoing, easy to talk to, find a lot of people unrealistically interesting – BUT – yes there is a BUT – The BUT is that I don’t have the energy I had “pre-kids” and networking for me, seems like more work.
So I need to address this in some way – I’m not sure how right now.
Working on the internet is definitely a double edged sword.
On one hand we have a unique skill, that most people only acquire by actually doing the work, on the other hand, because people don’t really understand the value of what we do, they can really stuff us around when it comes to hiring us, and even paying us.
The bottom line is if you want to work on the internet – and make a living from it – Then I will welcome you with open arms (check out my Optin&Grow free training site for more on that…)
But if you want to log in once a week, and add a blog post here and there, and then call yourself a digital strategist, then I’m afraid you are kidding yourself. What we do is far more complex than that.
But that is not to say “Don’t start!!”
